The range hood is one of the most important tools in the kitchen. Every busy kitchen must have either a ducted range hood or a ductless installation with a range hood filter to extract air pollutants away from that part of the home. Both types of range hoods are effective but each works best for a particular type of kitchen.
Ducted range hood is ideal for large kitchens. It works by absorbing the unclean air and terminating it outside the kitchen. While the ducted application of the range hood is efficient in removing all pollutants in the air, this type of range hood installation requires sufficient amount of space for the vents that must be set up. Range Hood Filter.
Not all kitchens are made to hold ducted range hoods because of the space requirement, the complicated process of installing the range hood, the requirements of providing make-up air and the additional heating and/or cooling costs that is needed for the make-up air.
The other type of installation is more practical. The ductless range hood uses a range hood filter to sift the pollutants that can be found in the air and circulates the purified air back into the kitchen. This is more practical for smaller kitchens since it doesn’t require a huge amount of space.
Ductless range hoods are considered a good alternative for the ducted type. It is perfect for smaller kitchens which do not require a more powerful air purifying device as much the larger and busier kitchens. It may not clean the air as well as the ducted installation does but it does a relatively good job.
The ductless or recirculating range hood uses a filter that is composed of activated charcoal which is efficient in removing smoke particles, combustion products and odor from the air. After the whole purification process, the cleaned air is released back into the kitchen. Range Hood Filter.
While the ductless range hood installation is efficient and practical at the same time, it needs a considerable amount of maintenance for it to work at its best all the time. The activated charcoal filter must be cleaned or replaced on a regular basis. Range Hood Filter.
It is best that you buy a disposable range hood filter, so you can easily replace it with a new one in three to six months depending on how worn out it already is. Make sure that the range hood filters remain clean at all times. A dirty filter can cause the motor of the extractor hood to work harder, consequently causing the shortening of the range hood’s lifespan.
